PEAR SHAPE

What jeans suit a pear shape?

Wide-leg and bootcut are the two cuts to look at first. Both add volume below the knee, which balances a fuller hip instead of drawing attention to the contrast. Stretch matters more for a pear shape than almost anyone else, because the same jean has to fit a small waist and a full hip at once — that is what causes the gap at the back of the waistband.

What should I avoid if I am pear-shaped?

Skinny fits through the thigh with a tapered ankle exaggerate the difference between hip and leg. Stiff, non-stretch denim is the other thing to avoid: it will fit the hip and gape at the waist.

What sizes does this come in?

Jeans use numeric waist sizing — size 30 means a 30-inch waist. The range runs from waist 24 to waist 44, with 40 and above available through Miss Chase A+. Measure your natural waist, the narrowest point above your hips, rather than going by where your current jeans sit.

Do these have tummy shaping?

Some do. Styles built with CHASEshape™ carry a shaping panel inside the waistband — Level 1 smooths, Level 2 gives medium compression, Level 3 gives intense compression with a butt-lifting effect. Look for CHASEshape in the product title.
