Women's Jeans Size Guide: Waist 24 to 44, Plus & Petite
Numeric jeans sizing confuses almost everyone — is a "size 30" the same as a 30-inch waist? Does a size 36 run small? And where do plus and petite sizes actually begin? This guide clears it up for Indian women's denim, with a measuring method and a straight-talk chart. Every size below — waist 24 to 44 — is in stock at Chase Haul.
What the numbers mean
Women's jeans use numeric waist sizing: the number is your waist measurement in inches. A size 30 means a 30-inch natural waist. So:
- Size 24 jeans = a 24-inch waist (our smallest, petite end).
- Size 30–32 jeans = the most common range.
- Size 36 jeans = a 36-inch waist (where plus sizing begins for many brands).
- Size 44 jeans = a 44-inch waist (our largest).
Ignore the alphabetical size (S/M/L) on denim — the inch number is what to trust.
How to measure your jeans size (60 seconds)
- Take a soft measuring tape to your natural waist — the narrowest point, usually just above the belly button and above your hip bones. This is not where low-rise jeans sit.
- Keep the tape snug, not tight, and parallel to the floor.
- Read the number in inches. That is your jeans size.
- Between two sizes? Size up, especially in non-stretch denim. In CHASEstretch™ styles you can usually take the smaller size, because the fabric gives.
Quick size reference
| Waist (inches) | Jeans size | Alpha (approx.) | Where to shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24–26 | 24 / 26 | XXS–XS | All jeans |
| 28–30 | 28 / 30 | S–M | All jeans |
| 32–34 | 32 / 34 | L–XL | All jeans |
| 36–38 | 36 / 38 | XXL–3XL | Plus-size jeans |
| 40–44 | 40 / 42 / 44 | 4XL–6XL | Miss Chase A+ |
Fit note: sizes above waist 38 are drafted for the size, not scaled up from a smaller pattern — so the rise, thigh and hip are proportioned correctly, not just widened.
Petite sizing (size 24–26)
A true size 24 jean is hard to find in India, which is why many petite women size down in men's or teen ranges and end up with the wrong rise and length. Our denim starts at waist 24 with a proportioned rise, and skinny and bootcut fits both run this small.
Plus sizing (size 36–44)
Plus-size denim is where fit usually breaks down — most "plus" jeans are just a size-32 pattern widened, so the hip, thigh and rise land in the wrong place. Miss Chase A+ drafts each plus size from scratch, with real stretch and the option of a built-in CHASEshape™ shaping panel. If you wear a 36, 38, 40, 42 or 44, start with the best-selling plus-size jeans.
The same goes beyond denim: dresses and non-denim run XS to 6XL, so a 5XL dress is a real, drafted size here, not an afterthought.
Frequently asked questions
Is a size 30 jean the same as a 30-inch waist?
Yes. Women's jeans are sized by waist in inches, so a size 30 is made for a 30-inch natural waist.
What size is a 36 in jeans?
A 36-inch waist. In alpha terms that's roughly XXL. At Chase Haul, size 36 and up sits in the plus-size range and is drafted for the size, not widened from a smaller pattern.
Do you have size 24 jeans for women?
Yes — our denim starts at waist 24 with a proportioned petite rise and length, across skinny and bootcut fits.
Should I size up or down in stretch jeans?
In CHASEstretch™ you can usually take your true size or the smaller of two, because the fabric gives and recovers. In rigid, non-stretch denim, size up if you're between sizes.
What is the largest jeans size you carry?
Waist 44 (6XL), through Miss Chase A+, with select styles larger.
